The Dolphins are preparing for another important season in 2027, with Kristian Woolf's side looking to build on its progress and establish itself as a genuine contender.

There will be some significant changes to the squad, particularly with George Williams arriving from Warrington Wolves to strengthen the halves and several players moving on.

However, the Dolphins still have plenty of attacking quality, with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Herbie Farnworth, Selwyn Cobbo and Jack Bostock providing an exciting backline.

Here is how we think the Dolphins could line up in Round 1 of the 2027 NRL season.

Predicted Round 1 team

round-1-2027 (4)

The spine

The Dolphins' spine could be one of the most exciting parts of their 2027 campaign.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow remains one of the competition's most dangerous attacking fullbacks, while George Williams' arrival gives the club an experienced playmaker to partner Isaiya Katoa.

Jeremy Marshall-King will continue to provide experience and creativity at dummy-half. The combination between Williams and Katoa will be particularly interesting, with both players capable of taking control of matches.

Kodi Nikorima is a huge loss, so George Williams has a lot to prove when he returns to the NRL.

A dangerous backline

The Dolphins have plenty of strike across their outside backs.

Farnworth is one of the club's most important players, while Bostock and Cobbo provide size, speed and finishing ability. Tevita Naufahu is another player who could take an important step forward after being positioned for a bigger role.

If the Dolphins can keep their outside backs healthy and get consistent service from their halves, they could cause plenty of problems for opposition defences.

Bostock looks like he could leave in 2028, with Farnworth's future still undecided. Therefore, with a strong 2027 backline, they will want to maximise their premiership window now.

The forward pack

There is also plenty to like about the Dolphins' forward options.

Flegler and Molo provide size and aggression through the middle, while Finefeuiaki and Lemuelu offer mobility and attacking ability on the edges.

Plath's versatility makes him an important part of the starting pack, while Gilbert, Knowles and Kaufusi would provide plenty of experience and power from the interchange.

Final verdict

The Dolphins have the talent to make an impact in 2027, particularly if their new halves combination clicks early. That is the key.

Their outside backs offer genuine attacking threats, and the forward pack has a strong balance of experience, size and mobility.

The biggest question will be whether George Williams and Isaiya Katoa can quickly develop into a consistent combination capable of taking the Dolphins to another level.

I think the Dolphins will finish similarly to in 2026, with top 4 ambitions realistic again for 2027.
