Matchday 8 of the Premier League brings a huge weekend of football, with a West London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham, a tough trip to Aston Villa for Manchester City and plenty of intriguing clashes across the division.

Aston Villa have enjoyed recent success against City, while Sunderland desperately need a response after a difficult run of results. Arsenal will be confident against Everton, but Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle could all face tricky tests.

Here are my predictions for every Matchday 8 fixture.

Ipswich Town 1-1 Nottingham Forest

Ipswich Town host Nottingham Forest in Friday night's opener, with both sides looking to make the most of an opportunity to collect valuable points.

Forest have the quality to threaten going forward, but Ipswich should be competitive at home and will look to make life uncomfortable for the visitors. This could be a closely fought contest, with neither team doing quite enough to claim all three points.

Both sides should see this as a great opportunity to grab three points, with a very evenly matched game poised.

Aston Villa 2-1 Manchester City

Aston Villa have shown in recent meetings that they can give Manchester City plenty of problems, particularly at Villa Park. Villa won 1-0 at home in October 2025 and also defeated City 2-1 in December 2024. They then claimed another impressive 2-1 victory away from home in May 2026.

Those results should give Unai Emery's side plenty of belief heading into this encounter. Villa have demonstrated that they can exploit City's weaknesses, especially when they defend with discipline and break forward quickly.

City remain one of the strongest attacking teams in the league, and their quality means they will always create chances. However, Villa Park could once again prove a difficult venue for Enzo Maresca's side.

I am backing Villa to continue their impressive recent record against City with another memorable win.

Coventry City 1-1 Fulham

Coventry welcome Fulham in a fixture that could be more competitive than many expect. The home side will want to use their home advantage and make it difficult for Fulham to settle into their usual passing rhythm.

Fulham have the experience and technical quality to cause problems, but Coventry should have enough energy and organisation to stay in the contest.

A draw looks like a fair outcome, with both sides likely to have opportunities without completely taking control. This is yet another game that could end up being a relegation 6-pointer looking back when the season is done.

Arsenal 2-0 Everton

Arsenal will be looking to continue their push near the top of the table when Everton visit the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners should control possession for long periods and have the attacking quality to break down Everton's defence. Everton will likely try to remain compact and frustrate the hosts, but Arsenal's movement and creativity could eventually make the difference.

A clean sheet would also be important for Arsenal, particularly if they can limit Everton's opportunities on the counter-attack and from set pieces.

I expect the home side to secure a professional victory with Max Dowman injected for the next few weeks with Bukayo Saka injured, and could be the perfect script against the side he scored against to become the Premier Leagues youngest ever scorer.

Chelsea 4-1 Tottenham Hotspur

The London derby between Chelsea and Tottenham is one of the standout fixtures of Matchday 8, and I am expecting goals at Stamford Bridge with two of the worst defences.

Chelsea will be eager to take advantage of home support, while Tottenham will look to attack and cause problems of their own off the back of their first win against Coventry. The intensity of this rivalry often produces entertaining football, and both sides should have opportunities in the final third.

However, Chelsea could have too much attacking firepower if they find their rhythm early. If Tottenham leave space behind their defence, the hosts may be able to exploit it repeatedly.

I am backing Chelsea to put in one of their strongest performances of the season and claim an emphatic derby win making Tottenham crash down back into reality.

Hull City 1-2 Brentford

Hull City face a difficult challenge against Brentford, who will be looking to take advantage of their organisation and attacking quality.

Hull should have their moments at home and could make this a competitive encounter, particularly if they put Brentford under pressure early. However, the visitors have the tools to create chances and punish defensive mistakes.

I expect Hull to find the net, but Brentford should have enough quality to edge a close game, they have been super impressive.

Liverpool 1-1 Brighton & Hove Albion

Liverpool return to Anfield for a challenging fixture against Brighton, a side that can cause problems through their willingness to play out from the back and attack with confidence.

Liverpool will want to put Brighton under pressure and take control of the game, but the visitors are capable of playing through that pressure and creating chances of their own.

Brighton's attacking approach could leave them vulnerable at times, although Liverpool may struggle to turn their chances into a decisive advantage.

I can see both sides finding the net, but Brighton could frustrate the home crowd by taking a point away from Anfield. This should be another great game to watch.

Manchester United 2-2 Bournemouth

Manchester United face another difficult test when Bournemouth travel to Old Trafford.

Bournemouth have the ability to make life uncomfortable for United, especially if they press aggressively and force mistakes in possession. United will need to be more consistent defensively while making the most of their opportunities going forward.

The home side should create chances, but Bournemouth are capable of responding and taking advantage of any defensive lapses.

This has the potential to be an entertaining match, with both teams scoring and neither finding the decisive breakthrough. It's hard to tip either of these sides at the moment, so I won't.

Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle United

Talking of hard teams to back for a win, Crystal Palace welcome Newcastle to Selhurst Park in what could be a tight and physical encounter.

Palace will look to use their home advantage and exploit opportunities on the counter-attack, while Newcastle possess enough attacking quality to threaten throughout the game.

Neither side will want to give too much away defensively, especially with the possibility of a narrow result. Palace should make things difficult for Newcastle, but the visitors are capable of finding an equaliser if they fall behind.

A share of the points looks the most likely outcome.

Sunderland 3-2 Leeds United

Sunderland face Leeds United at the Stadium of Light in a match that could be hugely important for the hosts' confidence.

Sunderland have endured a difficult spell, and defender Nordi Mukiele's recent comments have highlighted the frustration within the squad. Following the defeat to Bournemouth, Mukiele questioned the team's performances and called for greater effort, unity and a return to the standards they showed last season.

His message could provide the wake-up call Sunderland need. Mukiele has made it clear that the players must take responsibility, work harder in training and show supporters that they are determined to turn things around.

Now Sunderland have an immediate opportunity to respond in front of their home fans. The atmosphere at the Stadium of Light could play a major role if the hosts start positively and give the crowd something to get behind.

Leeds will be dangerous, particularly after showing encouraging signs against Manchester United, and their attacking quality means Sunderland cannot afford to switch off defensively.

Nevertheless, I am backing Sunderland to respond to the criticism with a much-improved performance. Mukiele's words could inspire the players to raise their intensity and fight for a much-needed victory.

It might not be comfortable, but Sunderland could produce one of the weekend's most entertaining results.
