The 2026 FIFA World Cup has reached its decisive stages, and the race to become world champions is almost down to its final four.

France, Spain, England and Argentina are all who remain of the 48 sides at this World Cup.

  1. France

France are still the team to beat.

A 2-0 quarter-final victory over Morocco was another statement from a side that continues to find ways to win on the biggest stage. Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele found the net as France secured their place in yet another World Cup semi-final.

Their squad depth, experience and attacking quality make them the most complete team remaining in the tournament.

France now face Spain in a blockbuster semi-final that could easily be viewed as a potential final.

  1. Spain

Spain are right behind France after continuing their impressive tournament with a 2-1 victory over Belgium.

After previously eliminating Portugal, Spain have now knocked out two strong European opponents in consecutive rounds. Their ability to control matches while still possessing the quality to decide games in the final third makes them a genuine threat to win the tournament.

A semi-final against France represents their biggest challenge yet, but Spain have shown throughout this World Cup that they are capable of beating anyone.

  1. England

England are into the semi-finals, even if they were forced to do it the hard way.

Norway pushed England all the way in the quarter-finals, taking the lead before Jude Bellingham inspired a comeback. The midfielder equalised before scoring again in extra time to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory.

England have not always been at their best during this tournament, but they continue to survive and advance. With Bellingham producing decisive moments and a squad packed with talent, they remain a serious contender to lift the trophy.

They will face either Argentina for a place in the World Cup final.

  1. Argentina

Argentina complete our top four, although they still have work to do.

The defending champions faced Switzerland in the final quarter-final, knowing victory would set up a huge semi-final against England.

Argentina have already survived a dramatic knockout clash against Egypt and possess the experience required to handle the pressure of the latter stages of a World Cup.

They remain one of the favourites to win the tournament, but with France, Spain and England already safely through to the semi-finals, Argentina sit fourth in our latest rankings despite being the reigning winners.
