Sato is one of Japan's biggest young midfield talents. He won the J.League Best Young Player Award in 2025 and then completed a permanent move from FC Tokyo to Valencia in July 2026.

16. 🇺🇸 USA — Cavan Sullivan

Sullivan turned 17 today, September 28, 2026, making the timing of this list particularly appropriate. He has already exploded onto the MLS scene, producing seven goals and five assists in 2026, while continuing to develop as one of America's most exciting teenagers. He will play in the Premier League with Manchester City in the future. 

15. 🇮🇹 Italy — Samuele Inacio

Inacio is the son of former professional footballer Pia and has made the move from Atalanta to Dortmund. He is a highly rated forward who has already represented Italy extensively at youth level and is now breaking into Dortmund's senior environment.

14. 🇨🇭 Switzerland — Zachary Athekame

Athekame joined Lyon on loan from AC Milan and has quickly become an important part of the side. His athleticism and attacking contribution make him an exciting modern full-back.

13. 🇭🇷 Croatia — Luka Vuskovic

Vuskovic is one of Europe's most exciting young defenders. Standing around 1.93m tall, he combines aerial strength with excellent technical ability and produced an impressive six-goal Bundesliga season before moving to Brighton. Tottenham have fumbled big time. 

12. 🇩🇪 Germany — Paris Brunner

20 | Monaco | Striker

Brunner is already a decorated youth international. He won both the Golden Boot and Golden Ball at the 2023 FIFA U17 World Cup, and has now established himself in senior European football with Monaco, and has scored 4 times this season in Ligue 1. 

11. 🇨🇴 Colombia — Samuel Martinez

17 | Atletico Nacional/Liverpool | Attacking midfielder

Martinez is one of Colombia's brightest teenage prospects. The Atletico Nacional youngster starred for Colombia's youth sides and has already attracted major European attention, with Liverpool having agreed a future move once he reaches the relevant age.

10. 🇲🇽 Mexico — Gilberto Mora

Mora is one of the most exciting teenage players in world football. Born in October 2008, he has already become a major Liga MX player and has been producing goals despite still being only 17. He was a sensation at the World Cup for Mexico. 

9. 🇳🇱 Netherlands — Givairo Read

20 | Feyenoord | Right-back

Read has established himself as one of Feyenoord's most important young defenders. The full-back has already accumulated significant Eredivisie and European experience, while his attacking output has continued to improve. Manchester City, Nottingham Forest, and AS Roma all attempted to sign him in the summer. 

8. 🇧🇪 Belgium — Joaquin Seys

Seys is a versatile defender capable of playing across the back line. He has become a regular for Club Brugge and has already gained Champions League experience, making him one of Belgium's most interesting young defenders. A big European move is surely on his horizon soon. 

7. 🇵🇹 Portugal — Dario Essugo

Essugo became one of Sporting's youngest-ever players before moving to Chelsea. After a spell at Las Palmas, he is now gaining regular senior experience at Strasbourg, while his athleticism and ball-winning ability remain his biggest strengths.

6. 🇲🇦 Morocco — Abdellah Ouazane

Ouazane is one of the youngest players on the list and one of Morocco's biggest prospects. He was named Player of the Tournament at the 2025 CAF U17 Africa Cup of Nations, where Morocco won the competition, and is now developing within Ajax's system. CAF itself described him as one of Morocco's most exciting young players in September 2026.

5. 🇧🇷 Brazil — William Gomes

The left-footed winger is capable of playing on either flank and has already represented Brazil at youth level. He is also included in the 2026 Golden Boy talent pool. Big clubs will circle for him very soon. 

4. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 England — Max Dowman

Dowman is one of the most remarkable teenagers in football. Born December 31, 2009, he is only 16 and has already broken major age records while making an impact for Arsenal. He is also among the leading names on the 2026 Golden Boy list.

3. 🇫🇷 France — Jeremy Jacquet

Jacquet has made one of the biggest moves of the summer, joining Liverpool from Rennes. He made 33 senior appearances for Rennes, including 21 in the 2025/26 season, and also spent a season on loan at Clermont. He is a nominee for EPL player of the month for September. 

2. 🇦🇷 Argentina — Gianluca Prestianni

Prestianni has been one of Argentina's most highly rated young attackers since his breakthrough at Velez. The diminutive winger is built around explosive acceleration, close control and one-on-one ability and has continued his development in Portugal with Benfica and has 8 goal contributions in just 7 league games this season.

20 | Real Sociedad | Centre-back

Martín has developed through Real Sociedad's academy and is now established in the club's senior pathway. The 20-year-old centre-back combines a strong physical profile with composure in possession and has represented Spain through the youth international ranks.

The Next Generation is Everywhere

The most striking thing about this group is just how global the next generation has become.

The obvious footballing powers remain heavily represented, but there is also elite-level potential emerging from countries such as Jordan, Uzbekistan, Panama, Uganda, Luxembourg, Iraq and Oman.

There are teenagers already playing Champions League football, such as Max Dowman, Konstantinos Karetsas and Samuele Inácio, while others are still developing in their domestic leagues. There are also players who have already made enormous international breakthroughs, including Lucas Herrington, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Gilberto Mora and Cavan Sullivan.

And the list is changing incredibly quickly. Several players who would have comfortably appeared on a U21 list a year ago have already aged out, while another group of teenagers particularly those born in 2008, 2009 and even 2010 are now beginning to emerge.

That makes this less a list of established stars and more a snapshot of who could define international football over the next five to ten years.
