Real Madrid take bragging rights, Manchester United suffer another setback, and the ParaMatildas reach a World Cup final.
It has been another massive week in world football, with drama across Europe's top leagues, an action-packed round of Champions League fixtures and plenty happening on Australian soil.
Real Madrid claimed a statement victory over Barcelona in El Clásico, Aston Villa stunned Manchester City, and Manchester United's difficult season took another turn for the worse. Meanwhile, the A-League Men continued its new campaign, while Australia's ParaMatildas made a run to the final of the IFCPF Women's World Cup.
Here's everything you need to know from the past week in football.
Premier League: Villa stun City as United struggle again
The Premier League delivered a weekend full of talking points, with Aston Villa producing one of the biggest results by defeating Manchester City 2-1.
Villa took advantage of their opportunities to hand City a setback in the title race. The result gives Villa another reason to believe they can challenge the league's strongest sides, while City will be looking to respond quickly.
Arsenal made the most of City's slip-up, defeating Everton 2-0 to remain level on points with City. Tottenham also enjoyed a strong weekend, beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge to claim a valuable London derby victory, and just their second win away at Chelsea in nearly 40 years!
However, the biggest concern remains Manchester United. A 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth left United facing serious questions after another disappointing performance at Old Trafford.
Bournemouth capitalised on defensive mistakes to secure an impressive away win, adding further pressure to United's campaign.
With Arsenal taking care of business and Villa proving they can trouble the biggest clubs, the Premier League title race is already producing plenty of intrigue.
La Liga: Real Madrid win El Clásico
Real Madrid claimed the biggest victory of the weekend in Spain, defeating Barcelona 2-1 at Camp Nou.
Kylian Mbappé was the star of the show, scoring twice to secure the three points for José Mourinho's side. Barcelona briefly drew level through Raphinha, but Mbappé struck again late in the match to settle the contest.
The result ended Barcelona's perfect start to the La Liga season and reduced their advantage over Madrid to three points.
For Madrid, the victory is a significant statement in the title race. Beating their biggest rivals away from home provides a major confidence boost, particularly with the season's fixture list becoming increasingly demanding.
Barcelona will be disappointed after their impressive opening run, but there is little time to dwell on the defeat. Their response over the coming weeks will be important as they look to maintain their position at the top.
With Atlético Madrid also in the mix, the Spanish title race is shaping up to be one to watch.
Serie A: Inter strike late to reclaim the summit
Inter Milan produced a dramatic finish to defeat Fiorentina 2-1, scoring twice in stoppage time to turn the match around.
Fiorentina looked set to take a valuable result from San Siro before Marcus Thuram equalised in the 91st minute. Piotr Zieliński then converted a penalty in the 98th minute to complete the comeback and send Inter back to the top of Serie A.
The result highlighted Inter's ability to keep pushing until the final whistle, even when a match appears to be slipping away.
Juventus and AC Milan also bounced back with victories, ensuring the race among Italy's leading clubs remains competitive.
Napoli and Roma played out an insane 3-3 draw, with Atalanta and Frosinone one upping that result with a 4-4 draw!
With several sides capable of putting together a strong run of results, consistency will be crucial as the season progresses.
Bundesliga: Bayern face another test
Bayern Munich remain one of Europe's biggest talking points as they continue their Bundesliga campaign, with their domestic form and attacking depth attracting plenty of attention.
The German champions have already demonstrated their ability to overwhelm opponents this season, including their emphatic 6-1 victory over RB Leipzig earlier in October.
Their latest league fixture against Freiburg provided another important test, with Bayern navigating a demanding period that also includes Champions League commitments.
The coming weeks will reveal how well Bayern can maintain their standards while managing injuries, squad rotation and the pressure of competing on multiple fronts.
For their domestic rivals, keeping pace with Bayern will require near-perfect performances.
Ligue 1: Rennes rise as Marseille win a thriller
France provided plenty of entertainment, with Rennes defeating Strasbourg 3-0 to move to the top of Ligue 1.
The convincing victory gave Rennes a significant boost and added another contender to an increasingly competitive title picture.
Marseille were also involved in a spectacular contest, edging Le Havre 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller. The match delivered plenty of attacking football and late drama, underlining the entertainment Ligue 1 has provided this season.
Paris Saint-Germain remain a major force, but the competition around them is developing into a genuine challenge.
With Rennes building momentum and Marseille producing goals, there is plenty to follow beyond the usual Parisian spotlight.
Champions League: European giants deliver another thriller
The UEFA Champions League returned with a memorable round of fixtures, featuring high-scoring contests and several performances that reinforced the ambitions of Europe's biggest clubs.
Liverpool edged Villarreal 4-3 in an entertaining encounter, while Manchester City defeated AEK Athens 5-1. Phil Foden's hat-trick was a particular highlight for City.
Paris Saint-Germain also claimed a major result, beating Barcelona 4-2 in a match that showcased the French side's attacking quality.
Elsewhere, Napoli defeated Bodø/Glimt 4-3, while Aston Villa continued their impressive European campaign with a 3-1 victory over Viking.
Arsenal earned a 2-2 draw away to Bayern Munich, with Declan Rice scoring a late equaliser to rescue a point.
However, Manchester United endured another miserable European outing, suffering a 4-1 defeat to Como.
The results have reinforced just how demanding the expanded league phase can be. Strong domestic reputations offer no guarantees, and clubs must deliver consistently to put themselves in a position to progress.
Australian football: Wanderers put on a show
The A-League Men continued its opening rounds, with Western Sydney Wanderers producing one of the weekend's most entertaining performances.
The Wanderers defeated Auckland FC 5-2, delivering an attacking display that will excite their supporters. The result was an early statement of intent as the Sydney club looks to build momentum this season.
Sydney FC also claimed a 2-1 victory over Adelaide United, while Wellington Phoenix defeated Central Coast Mariners 2-0.
Brisbane Roar beat Perth Glory 2-1, and Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City played out a 1-1 derby draw.
There is still a long way to go in the campaign, but the opening rounds have already offered goals, comebacks and plenty of reasons for Australian football fans to tune in.
The Wanderers will be particularly pleased with their attacking output, although maintaining that form over a full season is the real challenge.
ParaMatildas reach World Cup final
Australia's ParaMatildas were among the standout stories of the week, reaching the final of the IFCPF Women's World Cup.
The Australians booked their place in the decider after defeating Finland 10-0 in the semi-final, continuing an impressive tournament run.
Their campaign ended in heartbreak, however, as the United States claimed a narrow 3-2 victory in the final.
Although Australia fell just short of the trophy, reaching the final was a major achievement and another important moment for the country's para-football program.
The tournament showcased the quality, commitment and competitive spirit of the ParaMatildas, who can take plenty of positives from their performances.
Ballon d'Or
Harry Kane claimed the men’s Ballon d’Or after a phenomenal season, while Alexia Putellas won the women’s award. Lamine Yamal and Vicky López took the young-player honours after a historic 70-year anniversary of the awards nights in London.
