After questions followed Portugal's opening draw with DR Congo, Roberto Martínez's side responded in emphatic fashion with a 5-0 demolition of Uzbekistan.

A 41 year old Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice, becoming the first player to score in six different World Cups, while Portugal produced their most complete performance of the tournament so far.

Nuno Mendes added another before an own goal and a late strike from Rafael Leao completed the rout. The result leaves Portugal well placed heading into a decisive showdown with Colombia for top spot in Group K.

When Portugal's midfield moves the ball quickly and allows their attacking players freedom, they remain one of the most dangerous sides in the competition.

England entered the match expecting to secure qualification but were instead frustrated in a 0-0 draw by a disciplined Ghana side. Despite dominating possession and creating several opportunities, Thomas Tuchel's men could not find a breakthrough.

The Three Lions struck the woodwork and came close on several occasions, including a stunning miss from Harry Kane, but Ghana's defensive organisation held firm throughout.

For Ghana, the result keeps qualification hopes firmly alive but for England, it serves as a reminder that possession alone does not win football matches.

Croatia bounced back from their opening defeat by securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Panama.

It wasn't a great Croatian performance, but after the heavy loss to England, three points were all that mattered.

The win keeps Croatia's hopes of reaching the knockout rounds alive heading into the final group match, while Panama now have been eliminated from the World Cup.

Colombia continued their excellent start to the tournament by defeating DR Congo 1-0 and securing qualification for the Round of 32.

Defender Daniel Munoz scored his second goal of the World Cup, proving the decisive goal in the 76th minute after Colombia dominated much of the contest.

The South Americans created chance after chance, only to be repeatedly denied by an outstanding performance from DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi.

In the end, however, Colombia's pressure proved too much and DR Congo couldn't hold on any longer.

With two wins from two matches, they have firmly established themselves as one of the top sides so far this tournament.
